WORLD-CLASS WAVES

in a laid-back atmosphere

Surfing

If you’re looking to hang ten and catch some world-class waves in a laid-back atmosphere, then Nosara is the place for you.

Why surf Nosara?

For years, watersport enthusiasts have flocked to the Guanacaste region – specifically Playa Guiones on the Nicoya Peninsula – for what is considered to be some of the best surfing conditions in the world. Backed by lush tropical jungles and protected by the Ostional Wildlife Refuge, the area boasts more than 350 surfable days a year, with 90% of them offering waist- to head-high waves. Few places offer surfers that kind of consistency, almost guaranteeing your chances of ideal conditions regardless of your length of stay and your surfing ability.

Before you even hit the surf, you’ll notice the unspoiled beach, which has earned a ‘Banda Azul’ or Blue Flag of Ecology for being among the most clean, pristine and ecologically well-maintained beaches in the world.

Everything a surfer needs

Are you a Barney or a Waldo on the board? Have no fear . . . there are plenty of excellent surf schools from which to choose in Playa Guiones. There are also plenty of local surf shops that will get you all the gear you need, from Coconut Harry’s to El Punto, Juan Surfo’s Surf Shop! And once you start shredding with the best of ‘em, be sure to get Nosara Shack to capture the entire experience on film or video – they’re the best surfing photographers around!

A surfer’s gotta eat (and rest) sometime . . .

After a day of fun in the waves, remember that the village of Nosara is just a few miles inland, with its quaint shops, grocery stores and incredible restaurants. And don’t forget that Nosara is known for Pura Vida and its laid-back lifestyle. At the end of the day, you can kick back and kick up your feet or just chill with the locals until you catch the next wave. It’s all up to you.

There’s always another wave to conquer

And if you want a little variety during your stay in paradise, you’re within close proximity to even more great surfing at nearby beaches including Playa Marbella and Playa Pelada. No matter how long you stay – some end up staying forever – the surf will always be up in Nosara.
